What makes SCIRx different?

What is compounding?

Compounding is a safe and long-established tradition in pharmacy practice. In many cases, manufactured (off-the-shelf medications) cannot meet a patient’s needs. Compounding enables practitioners to prescribe medicines that are specifically prepared by the pharmacist to meet an individual needs. There are a variety of options available with compounded medications. This can include a change in the delivery system, a special dosage or strength, special flavoring, or customized formulation.

Is compounding regulated?

All pharmacies and pharmacists are licensed and regulated by State Boards of Pharmacy. SCIRx is a member of the PCCA, the Pharmacy Compounding Association, and the Maine Pharmacy Association.

If requested, we will provide a completed and signed universal claim form on human prescriptions that can be used when submitting a claim for reimbursement to your insurance company. Many insurance plans may cover the cost of your prescription

When will my credit card be charged?

Your credit card will not be charged until we complete and fill your prescription. We do not keep card information on file and all information is shredded after use. How do I get a copy of my invoice?

When we process your prescription, we include the invoice and a receipt of payment. We can also email this information to you if requested.

Can you set up my account for Auto Refill?

No, due to the nature of custom compounding we do not automatically dispense prescriptions. Refill requests may be called into the Pharmacy during business hours, or can send us your request via email, fax or leave a message after hours on our phone answering system.

Can I return a compounded medication?

Compounded medications are made specifically per prescription and can not be returned. State pharmacy regulations dictates that once a prescription medication leaves the premises of the pharmacy, it can no longer be returned.

What is the Shipping Method?

Our standard shipment method is the U.S. Postal service. Delivery time is usually 1-2 days. This of course depends on your location. Items can be shipped to a P.O. Box or street address and do not require a signature. Certain medications need to be shipped on ice/ priority mail. We will review with you prior to filling and mailing since this will increase the price.

We do our best to ship items on the same day requested. In most cases, we can ship the same day for medication orders received before noon EST. Our workload at the time the prescription is ordered and the medication’s availability may affect our ability to ship the same day. Prescriptions shipped over a weekend or long weekend may carry an extra cost to cover the additional packing material required.

If requested, your prescription can be sent via UPS. This does carry an additional cost.

How do I refill my prescription?
To fill a prescription, you may call us during business hours, leave an after-hours message, text or email your request. You may also download our refill form here and fax or email it to us. Once we have reviewed your request we will contact you to arrange for pick up or mailing of your prescription. Providing the Rx number is helpful in reviewing your prescription. If using the online form please provide us with the best way to contact you either by phone or email. Please allow 24 hours for the processing of refill requests.

Where do I find my prescription or Rx number?
The Rx number is on the upper left side of the prescription label on the prescription vial. The Rx number for transdermal pens is located on the outer brown bag the pen came in.
What is the process if I have no more refills on a prescription or it has expired?

If you are in need of a refill and the vial has 0 refills remaining, we can reach out to the provider by, fax or email to request a refill for you. When we receive authorization to fill the prescription, we can either contact you to arrange for pick up or mail when approved. The process is the same if your prescription has expired. Prescriptions may be written with a specific number of refills or in some cases with long-term medication the doctor may write for a year.

What if my pet will not take the medication prescribed?

There are many reasons why your pet may not take their mediation. If you are having difficulty, call us and we can review other options. It might be a flavor issue or maybe the delivery method should be changed. Please don’t get frustrated, give us a call.

How can I dispose of unused medication?

If your community does not have a drug take back program, customers are welcome to contact the pharmacy and we can take back your unused medication dispensed at no charge. Please do not flush medicines down the toilet or drain, or throw medications in the garbage. Medicines not properly disposed of can get back into our environment.
